The big six are all of the mainstream film companies which distribute the expensive and well advertised films. The companies within the big 6 are: Warner Bros. Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures and Walt Disney Studios. There are many genres for films such as: western, horror, thriller, romance, comedy, action, animation, fiction etc which all appeal to different audiences.
The Secret Life of Pets and Finding Dory were both created with children as their target audience and were released during the school summer holidays so children had time to go to the cinema and watch the films. All of the films listed are produced by companies within the big 6, which shows that Indie distributors do not produce high budget films that gain high profits. This is very different to Blockbuster films which produce high budget films with a very large profit. Two of the top five films are sequels from other films which shows that they have control over a specific audience who are fans of the original films or are interested in the narrative that runs throughout.
